The NFL season is back in full swing as Week 1 has concluded. Let's check in to see how our former Owls performed.
Lions' cornerback Rock Ya-Sin (2018) played a huge role in their overtime victory over the New Orleans Saints. After the Lions scored first in overtime to take a 31-24 lead, the Saints marched down the field and scored a touchdown of their own. Instead of attempting the PAT to tie the game and continue overtime, the Saints decided to go for the two-point conversion to win the game. Saints quarterback Tyler Shough took the snap and fired the ball toward the back of the end zone, but the pass fell incomplete due to tight coverage from Ya-Sin on receiver Bryce Lance, sealing the Lions' victory. Ya-Sin also recorded seven tackles in the win.
Two Owls battled on their former home turf on Sunday as linebacker Arnold Ebiketie (2017-20) made his Eagles debut, facing off against his former Temple teammate Jordan Magee (2019-23) and the Commanders. Magee recorded two tackles in the game, while Ebiketie recorded one. The Eagles went on to win 24-22 in a tight finish.
Left tackle Dion Dawkins (2013-16) and linebacker Sam Franklin (2016-19) contributed to the Buffalo Bills' 36-31 win over the Houston Texans. Dawkins helped provide quarterback Josh Allen with time to throw as Allen passed for 334 yards and the Bills totaled 409 yards of offense. Franklin served as a captain on special teams but did not record any statistics.
Linebacker Jacob Martin (2014-17) made his Titans debut during their 23-10 loss to the Jets. He played 30 total snaps in the game but did not record any statistics. Tight end David Martin-Robinson did not play.
Head coach Todd Bowles (1982-85) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell to the Cincinnati Bengals by a score of 33-27 on Sunday. This is Bowles' fifth season as the head coach of the Buccaneers.
