Temple University Athletics
SAAASC Faculty Resources
The SAAASC staff includes athletic academic advisors, academic learning specialists, and graduate externs. Click here for the staff directory.
Responsibilities of the staff include:
Academic Advising
The SAAASC staff assist student athletes in planning semester course schedules, degree plans, and choosing an academic major. They work closely with the advising center liaisons in Temple schools and colleges to ensure thorough and consistent advising support that meets degree requirements and NCAA eligibility standards.
Academic Support Coordination
The SAAASC staff provides overall academic support structure for student athletes, including: academic monitoring and grade reports to professors, study hall and tutor program implementation, weekly individual academic meetings, and personal or academic adjustment assistance.
Intensive Learning Support:
The learning specialists work directly with student athletes who experience more intensive academic struggles. Specifically, the learning specialists work with student athletes who have been diagnosed with learning disabilities, have had an Individual Education Plan in high schools, or who could simply benefit from a highly structured learning and study environment. The learning specialists work with students to identify their learning styles and to create effective strategies to foster academic success. The learning specialists assist in identifying possible learning disabilities and differences, coordinating referrals leading to appropriate testing and diagnosis, and act as liaisons to the Office of Disability Resources and Services (DRS).
Provost Travel Letter
As of 2008, the Office of the Provost has published the following guidelines for faculty and student athletes to use in developing “reasonable accommodations” for making up coursework missed due to intercollegiate travel.
