August 2011
Temple officially welcomed back its students August 29th, and, as it always happens this time of year, the campus is alive again. Freshmen finding their way to their first classes while returning students catching up with friends following summer break.
The campus is also a buzz with the start of a new athletic season. All of our varsity coaches took part in the University’s Convocation for new students, and the 4,000-plus heard from Fran Dunphy, Tonya Cardoza and Steve Addazio. And it was the Owls’ new football coach who had the crowd so fired up one side was shouting out “Cherry” and the other side responded with “White”.
It is that spirit we hope to see this Thursday at the Mayor’s Cup Game against Villanova, and throughout the entire football and athletic season from not only our students, but from all of Owl Nation!!
The last two seasons have been special here at Temple, with our two basketball teams and football squad compiling the fifth most wins at the Division I level. One win ahead of Ohio State. Only Connecticut, Duke, Notre Dame and West Virginia compiled more combined victories in those three sports than your Owls.
We head into the 2011-12 season looking to continue this unprecedented success. Coach Addazio exudes confidence and has his team ready to compete for a MAC Championship. Coach Cardoza and Coach Dunphy look to extend their NCAA Tournament streaks. Our remaining 21 sports are also looking forward to successful seasons.
All we need is your continued support. Filling the stadium for the Villanova and Penn State games is a start. There are still plenty of good seats available for both games, so please help turn Lincoln Financial Field “Cherry” for not just these two games, but for the entire season.
Thanks again, for all that you do to support Temple Athletics. I hope you had a great summer, and Happy New (Temple) Year!!!
Go Owls!!!
