August 2012
Happy New YearTemple Fans!!
Hope everyone had a wonderful summer. It was good to see so many of you at the various outings we had over the summer, especially the two recent events at XFinity Live - Our Annual Football Season Ticket Holders event and our FanFest. Both were tremendous turnouts as I can tell everyone in OwlNation is looking forward to the 2012 season and Temple's return to the BIG EAST.
Kickoff is Friday, August 31 at 7 pm against Villanova at Lincoln Financial Field at the last Mayor's Cup for the foreseeable future. Looking forward to seeing many Temple alums, students, faculty and fans at the Mayor's Cup presented by Dunkin Donuts as well as all of the games this season as we are looking to make a statement in our first season in the BIG EAST since 2004.
There is so much momentum behind Temple Athletics, and hopefully you can feel the excitement and buzz around your Owls!!! Wherever I go I am stopped by alumni and fans booming with pride about their school and reenergized by the program's recent success.
I would also like to extend a warm Temple welcome to the incoming freshman class, as well as our returning students. Coaches Tonya Cardoza, Fran Dunphy and Steve Addazio said it best at the Convocation on August 24 that we want you to attend classes, study hard and come out and cheer on your classmates - our 600-plus student-athletes.
Student attendance at games is at an all-time high, and we need you to help not just our football and basketball teams win, but all of our 24 sports teams succeed on the playing field.
Finally, as we move into the BIG EAST, we really need the continued support of our loyal donors as we transition into a BCS Conference. It is critical that we provide our coaches with the resources necessary for continued success against new member schools that have much larger operating budgets. With your help we have been able to make strides over the last few years, specifically with the new basketball practice facility and the expansion of Edberg Olson Hall, but we need to continue to increase our fund-raising efforts in order to stay competitive. I know we can count on your support as we all want to reach new heights on the playing field.
Thank you again for all that you have done to help make Philadelphia "Owl City", and see you at the Mayor's Cup! Go Owls!
WELCOME ADDITION: Let's give a warm welcome to Mark Ingram, Assistant Vice President for Athletic Development, and the newest member of Temple's Athletics Senior Staff. Mark comes to Temple from the University of Tennessee, where he led the Volunteer Athletic Development office raise $336 million in his five years as Senior Associate Athletic Director. He also served in similar roles at the University of Georgia and the University of Missouri.
OWL CLUB UPDATE: With fiscal year 2012 now closed, the Temple Owl Club saw a 97% growth in donors to 4,831 total contributors and a 102% increase in dollars to over $4.16 million raised. We hope to build on this unbelievable momentum in the upcoming year as we set our course for progress in the BIG EAST Conference. Temple Athletics extends a big thank you to all of our generous supporters!
