MISSION

To provide a combination of Strength & Speed disciplines in a safe manner that will enable Temple University to possess the strongest, fastest, and most explosive college athletes in the nation - PERIOD.

THE TEMPLE WAY
Temple University’s Strength and Conditioning Department creates a holistic approach to athletic development by integrating philosophies, best practices, and current research along with open lines of communication with sports coaches, sports medicine, and student-athletes. Accountability is the foundational principle of a program. This allows honest communication with student-athletes, emphasizing specific accomplishments in training and expectations of individual character.
Program Methods:
Team Based Training - Implement a team based framework for all training that allows for efficient and safe practices. When teams train together it provides an opportunity to develop chemistry, teamwork, leadership skills, and a competitive environment
Plan With a Purpose - Apply energy specific speed and conditioning programs for all teams. Create, track, and test year-round strength protocols for all athletes.
Foundational Strength - Will be developed by teaching ground based movements and excelling at the basics of training
Recovery - Instill healthy habits surrounding with sleep, nutrition, and hydration, which are vital to our student-athlete’s success, and reaching their athletic potential
Performance Nutrition - Utilize a multi-dimensional approach by educating, guiding, and equipping athletes with the skills necessary to maximize health and performance

IRON OWL STANDARDS
  • Culture: This requires BUY-IN. Our model is that every athlete, every job, every task is the responsibility of everyone in our department. The most important thing is the student-athlete
  • Consistency: “Without consistency, any culture will crumble”. This is true both in the messages we are sending and in the training itself
  • Give Back: Contribute to the future of our field by developing top notch professionals through a formalized internship program
  • Education: Stay at the forefront of our field by attending conferences, clinics, meetings and site visits
  • Be EXCITED: Create an environment that motivates our athletes and makes them want to be a part of something special
IRON OWL CHALLENGE
Designed to develop competitiveness outside of team constructs, and push our athletes to take ownership of their own success. The Iron Owl Challenge allows every athlete to test themselves at various movements that are both common, and uncommon, within their training programs so that they can be recognized once they have achieved a certain number of successful challenges. These movements are based around athleticism as a whole, and provide a healthy environment for leadership and athletic development.
