Boosters, Alumni & Fans

What is a booster?
-According to the NCAA, a booster is considered a "representative of athletics interest"
-You are a booster if you are or have ever done any of the following:

  • A Temple student, employee, alumnus, donor, or ticket holder
  • Participated in or been a member of any group that supports or promotes Temple Athletics (e.g. Owl Club)
  • Helped in any way to recruit student-athletes
  • Made any financial contribution to Temple Athletics
  • Been involved in promoting Temple Athletics

What is considered an impermissible benefit?
-An extra benefit is any special arrangement to provide a student-athlete or the student athlete's relative or friend a benefit not generally available to Temple students or their relatives or friends, or to a segment of the student body based on criteria unrelated to athletics ability. Extra benefits would include provision of any transportation, meals, clothes, entertainment, preferential loan terms, wages not commensurate with duties, or other benefits offered to a prospect or current student-athlete which is unavailable to the general student population.

Important reminders for Temple Alumni, Boosters, and Fans:*
-Do not provide prospective or current student-athletes (or their families) with any special benefits (transportation, meals, money, etc.) unless preapproved by the Compliance Office.
-Boosters are prohibited from any involvement in recruiting activities.
-Boosters may only speak with student-athletes and their family if it is unavoidable, incidental contact, and the discussion does not include anything related to Temple Athletics.
-Once identified as a booster, the individual remains a booster for life.
-A prospect is still considered a prospect even after he/she signs a National Letter of Intent (NLI) or financial aid agreement to attend LSU.  Prospect loses prospect status when official team practice begins or the start of classes (whichever happens first), then the prospect becomes an official enrolled student-athlete.

*All actions must be pre-approved by the Compliance Office, and violation of any NCAA bylaws may result in removal of student-athlete eligibility and Temple University could be subject to NCAA penalties.
