Women's Rowing Walk-on Information
The Temple Women's Rowing Athlete Talent Search was created to find top female athletes who are driven to compete at the highest level of NCAA athletics and excited about the idea of transferring their athletics talents to a new sport at the collegiate level. Through this unique program, we provide a pathway for local, leading student-athlete(s) to become key members in the next generation of Temple Owls.
Our program has had tremendous success with our athlete talent search pathway. Despite no prior rowing experience, these athletes have become Division 1 scholarship athletes, All-Conference honorees and represented the US in international competition opportunities.
By answering ‘yes’ to the following questions, you could increase your success in becoming a Temple Women's Rower.
- Are you 5'9" to 6'3"?
- Are you extremely competitive with the will to win?
- Are you athletically fit and coachable with a desire to learn?
- Are you mentally tough, team oriented, and committed to excellence?

Meet our Former Walk-Ons:

Megan Llewellyn
Class: Graduate Student
Hometown: Conyngham, PA
Athletic background: Swimmer for 11 years, water polo for 6 years, track for 4 years
In what ways has rowing impacted your experience at Temple: Rowing has integrated me into this community in a way that no other organization has. The team and Temple Athletics has allowed me to find my home away from home and has been the best support system throughout my 5 years here at Temple.
Proudest moment as an Owl: My proudest moment as a Lady Owl was placing third overall in the conference and taking home a bronze medal in the second varsity 8 at conference championships. This occurred after our Covid year, so it was rewarding to see the progress we made as a team after such a challenging time.
Why prospective athletes should walk on at Temple: Walking on to this team has taught me more than just rowing. Walking on has taught me how to a better athlete and person. There are so many resources available to us that help us to understand nutrition, develop our professional image, help our community, etc.
Abby Lentz
Class: Junior
Hometown: Philadelphia, PA
Athletic background: High School soccer and softball
In what ways has rowing impacted your experience at Temple: Rowing has made me a better student. With the rigorous practice schedule, I have had to improve on my time management skills.
Proudest moment as an Owl: My proudest moment as an Owl would have to be winning as a Third Varsity boat at Dad Vails. It was amazing to see all of our rowers come together after working so hard to improve all season.
Why prospective athletes should walk on at Temple: Being a walk on for a sport is very intimidating. Trying to learn as much as you can in a shortened amount of time is hard, but very rewarding. Rowing has allowed me to expand my social circle and create connections with Rowing Alumni.
