- Title:
- Offensive Line Coach
Bicknell has spent the last eight years coaching in NFL Europe, including the last five seasons as an offensive coordinator. During his tenure overseas, over 60 players under his tutelage have had NFL careers.
Bicknell joined NFL Europe in 1998, directing the offensive line for the Frankfurt Galaxy for two seasons. The Galaxy went to consecutive World Bowls, capturing the title in 1999 with current Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme under center. Bicknell then moved to the Berlin Thunder, where he was in charge of the offensive line for one year before being elevated to offensive coordinator from 2001-03. The Thunder ranked second in total offense in 2001 and first in 2002 as the club captured back-to-back World Bowls. NFL signal-callers Jonathan Quinn, Todd Husak and former Temple star Henry Burris all saw time at quarterback for the Thunder during Bicknell's tenure.
In Cologne, Bicknell directed an offense in 2004 that featured Tony Pashos, who currently starts at offensive tackle for the Baltimore Ravens, and quarterback Ryan Van Dyke, who topped the league with 2,003 passing yards. In 2005, Kory Chapman ranked second in the league in rushing and total yards from scrimmage and is currently playing with the Indianapolis Colts.
Bicknell began his coaching career at Boston University in 1993 under the late Dan Allen. Bicknell coached the safeties in his first year with the Terriers before directing the running backs in 1994. BU advanced to the playoffs in both seasons, including a 12-1 mark in 1993. Running back Julian Dale was cited as the Yankee Conference Rookie of the Year in 1994. From 1995 to 1997, Bicknell directed the Terriers' linebackers under head coach Tom Masella.
A native of Holliston, Mass., Bicknell was a three-year letterwinner as a tight end at Boston College from 1989-91, playing his first two seasons under his father, Jack, and his final year under current New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin. Other tight ends on the Eagles' roster during Bicknell's playing days included former NFL players Mark Chmura and Pete Mitchell, with Bicknell starting in double tight end sets with both. Unfortunately, Bicknell's playing career was cut short by a leg injury.
Born November 13, 1969, Bicknell earned his undergraduate degree from Boston College in 1992. He and his wife Stacey have two daughters, Gabriella (8/15/03) and Grace (12/12/05). A member of a football family, his father was the head coach at Boston College from 1981 to 1990 and is currently the head coach of NFL Europe's Hamburg Sea Devils. His brother, Jack, Jr., was the starting center for Doug Flutie at BC and has been the head coach at Louisiana Tech for the past seven years.

GOLDEN ON BICKNELL
"If anyone can relate to the cultural transformation we are in the process of making in North Philadelphia it is Bob Bicknell. Coach Bicknell has a knack for being able to distinguish the important from the insignificant and thrives on cultivating relationships both with his players and with high school coaches. Bob is an exceptional communicator, a fantastic offensive line coach and will be a tremendous asset as we lay the foundation for Temple Football."
