James Mahan joined the Temple Football Staff as a graduate assistant in January 2020, following a year as a special teams intern on staff. Prior to joining the Temple staff, Mahan served as a defensive analyst at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.

Mahan is a native of Tallahassee, Florida, and earned his bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary social sciences from Florida State University. Mahan is now pursuing a master's degree in higher education.
