Â
Horton to Temple from Elon University where he oversaw the strength and conditioning department for the schools 17 NCAA Division I sports, while personally designing plans for the football, track and field, and cross country programs in his two years.
Â
Prior to his time at Elon, he spent six years at Florida International University serving as the assistant coordinator for strength and conditioning for the football, women’s volleyball, women’s basketball, and men and women’s track and field programs.
Â
It was at FIU that Horton first worked with Temple head coach Geoff Collins and Temple strength and conditioning coach Dave Feeley.
Â
During the six-year stretch, he assisted in an incredible run of improvement by each program. First it was the women’s volleyball team capturing back-to-back Sun Belt conference titles and NCAA appearances (2008 & 2009), capped off by a school record 32 wins (32-4) in 2009. Then the Panther’s football program joined the fray, capturing the programs’ first Sun Belt title in 2010.
Â
The track and field team also shined during his tenure, which included two conference championships, five school records, seven freshman school records, two conference records, two National qualifiers, one All-American, and a conference freshman of the year.
Â
Before entering the Sun Belt, Horton gained valuable experience in the South Eastern Conference as a part of the University of Tennessee football staff in 2004. That year, the Volunteers went 10-3 (7-1 in the SEC East) with a SEC championship appearance. He would assist the team toward another SEC championship appearance after going 10-4 (6-2 in the SEC East) in 2007.
Â
Horton was not foreign to Knoxville as he previously trained high school and collegiate athletes in the local DI Sports Training facility.
Â
Horton was a four-year letterman at Division III Otterbein College where he earned his bachelor’s degree in health and fitness promotions in 2007. He has also earned his certification in strength and conditioning (SCCC) and USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach (USAW-SPC), while being an active member of both associations.
Â
He and his wife Jennifer reside in the Philadelphia area.
