Aaron Watson joined the Temple cross country and track & field staff in September, 2013, as an assistant coach for the distance runners. Watson came to Temple from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich., where he served as a volunteer assistant coach for three years.
While at GVSU, Watson assisted in all aspects of coaching the cross country and middle/long distance track and field athletes on a daily basis. His teams were extremely successful, with the women's cross country squad winning the NCAA Division II Championship in both 2010 and 2012, while also capturing titles at both the 2011 and 2012 NCAA Division II Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The men's cross country team at GVSU placed third at the NCAA Division II Championships in 2010 and 2011, with both of those finishes ranking as the best in school history for that program. Watson helped guide seven men to cross country All-America honors in addition to 12 women.
GVSU athletes Monica Kinney won two national titles during Watson's coaching tenure, and Rachel Patterson took three national titles in distance events. Watson assisted in all aspects of on-campus recruiting while at GVSU. He is also a USATF Level I Certified Coach.
Watson graduated from GVSU with a bachelor's degree in sport management in 2012.
