In March of 2024, Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach Elvis Forde announced the hire of Riley Buchholz as assistant coach for men's cross country.

Buchholz comes to Temple with an impressive resume as an athlete and a budding career in coaching. The former Tennessee cross country and track & field athlete competed for the Volunteers from 2019-23. Buchholz placed 37th in the SEC Cross Country Championships in 2020 and helped the Volunteers place fifth at the SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships that same year. He set a personal record in the 10k at the 2021 NCAA South Regional, clocking in at 31:54.1 and placing 79th. Buchholz was honored as a 2020 All-SEC Freshman in cross country and  First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll for the 2019-20 season.

 

Following his collegiate athletics career, Buchholz served as an assistant with Tennessee’s Strength and Conditioning program. He also served as a volunteer coach for most of 2023, assisting Tennessee Head Coach and Director of Cross Country/Distance Sean Carlson.

 

Buchholz is a current member of USATF and the Philadelphia Runner Track Club. He competed in the 2023 Penn Relays 5k and won the event with a new course record, before placing 56th at Club Nationals that same year.

 

A native of Beavercreek, Ohio, Buchholz earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Tennessee, where he majored in Kinesiology.
