PHILADELPHIA - On Wednesday, the new Temple gymnastics head coach Hilary Steele announced the hiring of Joel Shugart as a new assistant coach.
"I am very excited to welcome Joel to Temple Gymnastics," said Steele. "Joel's energy, and enthusiasm really stood out from the beginning. From our first conversation, it was clear he wanted to be a part of Temple Gymnastics and the future of our program. He has extensive gymnastics knowledge and has built many great relationships throughout the sport that will help elevate our program. Joel is the perfect addition to our coaching staff, and we look forward to achieving the goals we have for this program."
He joins Steele's coaching staff as the second assistant coach hired this month, after Brittany Miller joined the staff on August 10.
The Iowa native got his start in the gymnastics coaching profession in 2012 with the Hawaiian Island Twisters (HIITS) in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Shugart graduated from Northern Iowa in 2002 with his bachelor's degree.
