Huskies win 90-36 to advance to Sweet 16 while Owls finish with a record of 25-9

NORFOLK, Va. – Scoring 55 points in the first half on 78 percent shooting from the field, the #1/1 Connecticut Huskies' 74th-straight win was never in doubt as they ended the season for Temple women's basketball in the NCAA Second Round by a score of 90-36. The Owls (25-9) finish the season with 25 wins which ties for the second-most in the history of the program, while UConn moves to the Sweet 16 with a record of 35-0.

Four players scored in double figures to lead Connecticut, with Maya Moore scoring a game-high 19 points including 17 in the first half. Kelly Faris recorded a double-double of 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Qwedia Wallace scored a team-high 12 points for Temple, and Marli Bennett added nine. Jasmine Stone led the Owls with eight rebounds.

UConn made its first six field-goal attempts and eight of its first nine as the Huskies quickly jumped out to a 15-point, 20-5 lead in the first six minutes. The damage got worse with UConn going 5-of-5 from behind the arc in the first eight minutes of the game, extending its lead to 29-5.

The Huskies shot nearly 78 percent in the first half en route to a 55-12 lead.

Near the 16-minute mark of the second half, Bennett followed a jumper with her second three-pointer of the game, putting Temple at 20 points.

Wallace then sank back-to-back three's, and ended up scoring all 12 of her points in the second half.

UConn shot 62 percent in the game, compared to 23.3 percent for Temple. The Huskies, who shot a blistering 70.6 percent from behind the arc, also out-rebounded the Owls 43-24.

Game Notes:
Temple's 25 wins are the most since 2006-07 when the Owls also recorded 25 victories, and tie for the second-most all-time…The Owls are now 4-9 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, while head coach Tonya Cardoza is 1-2…Senior LaKeisha Eaddy tops the all-time career steals list at TU with 252 and finishes her career ranked second all-time in assists with 489.
