The Origin of "Yeah! Yeah!"
2.7.25 | Women's Basketball
Twenty years ago, Coach Richardson began her coaching career at a high school, where many of her inner-city players were accustomed to hearing "No" from others who told them what they couldn't achieve.
Determined to change that mindset, she made it her mission to instill confidence in her players, emphasizing the belief that they could accomplish anything they were passionate about. Drawing inspiration from a Harvard study showing that people hear "No" countless times throughout their lives, Richardson countered those negative messages with "Yes."
She made celebrating every achievement her habit, often shouting "Yes, yes!" This eventually became her signature phrase: "Yeah, yeah." Even today, Richardson starts each day focused on the power of "Yeah, yeah."
The "Yeah! Yeah!" rally towels will be passed out at the game against South Florida on Saturday to help combat the No's in life.Â
