PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team has earned a post-season appearance for the second-straight season, as the Owls will play in the 2016 Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). Temple will be making its sixth appearance in the WNIT.

Temple will not have to travel far for its first home game, as the Owls will square off against Drexel (19-13, 13-5 CAA) on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Owls finished the regular season with a 20-11 overall mark, including a third-place record of 13-5 in the American Athletic Conference. Temple won their first ever American Tournament game, dispatching Tulsa, 78-52, in the quarterfinals, before falling to #20 USF in the semis.

Four players average double-figures in scoring for the Owls, led by All-Conference guards in sophomore Alliya Butts and junior Feyonda Fitzgerald. Butts averages 15.2 points, 2.8 assists, and 2.5 steals per game, while Fitzgerald puts up 13.0 points and 5.4 assists per game.

Temple's other starting guards are all major contributors on both ends of the floor. Sophomore Tanaya Atkinson averages 12.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, while classmate Donnaizha Fountain averages 10.1 points and 6.7 boards an outing. Senior Erica Covile chips in with 9.5 points per game with a team-high 7.2 rebounds a contest.

Off the bench, sophomore Khadijah Berger is a three-point threat for the Owls, ranking third on the team with 29 makes from beyond-the-arc. Graduate center Ugo Nwaigwe also contributes as the sixth or seventh option, leading the team with 46 total blocks.

As a team, Temple averages 69.9 points per outing, shooting 38.9% from the field, 29.5% from three, and 70.5% from the foul line.

Drexel earned a spot in the WNIT after finishing the regular season 19-13. The Dragons went 13-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association, advancing to the conference championship before falling to JMU, 60-46.

Drexel is led by All-CAA players in junior Sarah Curran and senior Rachel Pearson. Curran averages 15.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, while Pearson contributes 10.9 points a contest. As a team, the Dragons average 59.9 points per outing, shooting 39.5% from the field and 34.6% from three.

Last year, Temple advanced to the WNIT Final Four, knocking off Marist, Penn, NC State, and Middle Tennessee State, before falling in overtime to West Virginia.
