Women's Basketball Rallies for Win at Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The Temple women's basketball team shot 50% from the field in the final three quarters of action, rallying for a 59-54 win on the road at Iona on Sunday. The Owls rebounded from a slow first quarter to move to 3-1 overall, while the Gaels dip to 0-2.

KEYS TO THE GAME
> Temple shot 7.7% in the first frame, recording just two points in the first 10 minutes.
> The Owls trailed by as many as 11 points, before making a comeback.
> Temple cut the deficit to three points at the half, 22-19.
> The Owls tied things up early in the third quarter, before the lead changed hands twice more.
> A 17-4 Temple run spanning the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarters put the cherry and white up for good.
> The Owls then worked around a late 8-0 surge from Iona to seal the win.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
> Senior Tanaya Atkinson recorded her fourth straight double-double, leading the Owls with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
> Freshman Emani Mayo increased her career high with 15 points and four boards.
> Freshmen Desiree Oliver and Mia Davis each tallied nine points in the win.
> Freshman Breanna Perry finished with a team-high four assists, adding seven rebounds.

FIRST QUARTER
> Temple struggled to find a rhythem offensively, going just 1-for-13 (7.7%) from the field.
> Iona creeped out to an 8-2 lead in a slow moving frame.

SECOND QUARTER
> Temple had a 17-14 edge in the second to close the game to 22-19.
> Tanaya Atkinson had five points, while Shannen Atkinson added four in the frame.

THIRD QUARTER
> Temple tied things up almost immediately, 22-22 on a three-point play from Tanaya Atkinson.
> The Gaels went back on top in their next possession, and went on a 13-7 run to go up 35-29.
> Temple began chipping away, scoring 14 of the next 18 points to go up 41-38 after three.

FOURTH QUARTER
> The Owls' surge continued into the fourth, taking the lead for good. 
> All-in-all it was a 24-7 run spanning 9:11 that put Temple up 53-42 on a Mayo jumper with 4:18 to play.
> Iona rallied with a 10-2 run to make it just a three-point game, 55-52 with under a minute left.
> Tanaya Atkinson scored in the final seconds of Temple's next possession, and grabbed a huge defensive board at the other end of the floor that all but sealed the victory.
> The Owls added a pair of free throws and Iona scored once more, setting the final to 59-54.
