Women's Basketball Wins Thriller over Tulsa

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple senior Tanaya Atkinson tallied a three-point play with under a minute left, while pulling down the game-sealing defensive rebound, as the Owls picked up a nail-biting 76-75 win over visiting Tulsa at home on Saturday. The win improves Temple to 10-12 overall, 2-7 in conference play, while the Golden Hurricane dip to 8-15, 2-8 in The American.
KEYS TO THE GAME
> Atkinson finished with 30 points and 11 rebounds, recording her 13th double-double of the season.
> She passed Candice Dupree's 1,698 points to move into third on the Owls' all-time scoring list, and now has 1,725 career points.
> Tulsa's Shug Dickson, after being held to just four points in the first 20 minutes, scored 25 in the final 20, but the Owls worked around it, to seal the victory.
> The Owls out-rebounded Tulsa, 42-34, including a 15-6 advantage on the offensive glass.
> The visitors slightly out-shot Temple, 45% to 39.1% in the game, but late threes from freshman Emani Mayo and Atkinson's final three gave the Owls just enough cushion to get the win.

> Graduate student Mykia Jones tied her Temple best with 11 points, including going 3-of-4 from long range.
> Mayo finished with 10 points and four boards, while classmate Mia Davis added 10 points as well.
> Freshman Desiree Oliver tallied seven points and three assists in the win.
> Rookie Breanna Perry shattered her career best with 11 rebounds, adding four points.
> Sophomore Shantay Taylor tallied four points and tied a career high with seven rebounds.
FIRST QUARTER
> The first quarter featured seven ties and five lead changes, as neither team led by more than three.
> Temple took a slight lead to close the frame, as Atkinson got a put-back to make it 18-16.
SECOND QUARTER
> Tulsa opened the quarter with a bucket to tie things at 18-18.
> From there, the Owls went on a 9-2 run, including five points from Jones, to open a 27-20 lead with 4:45 on the clock.
> Tulsa later cut it to a four point game (30-26) with 2:26 to play, before Temple closed the frame on a 7-2 surge to make it 37-28 at the half.
THIRD QUARTER
> Tulsa erased much of Temple's lead by out-scoring the Owls 24-17 in the third.
> The Golden Hurricane shot 46.2% (6-13), holding Temple to just 20% (3-15) from the field, to make it a 54-52 game after three.
FOURTH QUARTER
> Both teams shot well in the frame, Tulsa at 64.4% and the Owls at 57.1%, but Temple did not relinquish the lead in a close as it could be quarter.
