Women's Basketball Set for AAC Tournament; Owls Face #6 Wichita State

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team will tip-off the 2018 Aaron's American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship on Saturday at noon. The Owls face Wichita State on ESPN3 in the first round of the event. 37725

THE BRACKET
> Temple is the #11 seed and will take on #6 WSU.
> The winner will meet #3 UCF in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
> Temple is 11-18 overall, finishing the regular season with a 3-13 record in American Athletic Conference play.
> The Owls have earned the #11 seed in the American Tournament.
> Temple is led by senior Tanaya Atkinson, who won the conference scoring title with 21.0 points per game. She's also added 9.3 rebounds per game with a team-high 78 assists.
> Freshman Mia Davis is second on the team with 11.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per outing. 
> Rookie Emani Mayo averages 9.4 points per game to rank third, and scored in double-digits in eight out of the nine games to close the regular season.
> Freshman Desiree Oliver adds 6.8 points per game, while classmate Breanna Perry is third on the Owls with 3.2 rebounds per game.
> Senior Khadijah Berger is second on the team with 76 total assists.
> As a team, Temple shoots 38.1% from the field, 29.9% from long range, and 67.1% from the free throw line.

LAST TIME OUT
> A little "Senior Night" magic saw the Temple women's basketball team force overtime against Memphis, but the Owls fizzled in the extra session, falling 83-78 to the Tigers.
> Tanaya Atkinson scored the final six points of regulation for the Owls, including the game-tying three with five seconds on the clock to send the game to OT.
> In overtime, Temple scored first, but Memphis nailed three from long range to close out the win.
> Atkinson was spectacular in her final game at McGonigle Hall, finishing with 26 points, 14 rebounds, five steals, and five assists.
> Emani Mayo finished the night with 15 points.

> Wichita State is 14-16 overall, ending the regular season with a 9-7 mark to earn the #6 seed.
> The Shockers closed the regular season with four straight wins.
> Wichita State is led by forward Rangie Bessard who leads the team with 19.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
> Diamond Lockhart adds 10.5 points per game with team-highs of 3.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
> Angiee Tompkins contributes 10.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
> Sabrina Lzada-Cabbage adds 7.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, with a team-high 38 blocks.
> Keke Thompson rounds out the top scoreres with 6.2 points per game.
> As a team, WSU shoots 43.6% from the field and 27.5 % from three.
> The Shockers out-rebound opponents by an average of 3.4 boards per game.

LAST TIME OUT
> Rangie Bessard and Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage registered double-doubles to lead Wichita State to a 70-59 win at Tulsa Monday night. 
> The Shockers out-rebounded Tulsa 45-33 and outscored TU in second chance points, 15-3.  
> Both teams shot 38%, but WSU was able to secure the win at the free throw line, going 18-for-22.
> Diamond Lockhart led four Shockers in double-figures with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting to go with four rebounds and four assists. 
> Bessard posted her eighth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Lozada-Cabbage recorded her second of the season with 12 points and 11 boards.

> Temple and Wichita State have split the all-time series, 1-1.
> Wichita State took the only meeting this season, 88-81, in Kansas.
> Temple won the first meeting, 83-79, on Nov. 26, 1983 on a neutral court.

> Temple cut a 16 point deficit down to just three late in the fourth quarter, but the comeback fell short on the road, as the Owls lost 88-81 at Wichita State.

> The Shockers' offensive explosion out-shadowed a season-best 12 threes for Temple, which shot 44.6% for the game.
