Redshirt sophomore QB Anthony Russo of the football team and senior Trey Wren of the golf team share UnderArmour/OwlSports.com Athlete of the Month honors for the month of October.
Russo led the football team to a 3-0 record in October, all wins against AAC opponents. During the month he was 64-of-97 passing for 791 yards and eight touchdowns. He set single-game highs of four TDs against ECU and 300-yards at Navy, but his best performance might have been the comeback win in overtime against previously unbeaten #20 Cincinnati. Russo hit Branden Mack with a 20-yard TD pass with 0:49 remaining to tie the game and then connected with Isaiah Wright for a 25-yard score in OT for the game-winner.
Wren has been on fire the month of October, compiling an incredible 69.5 stroke average over three tournaments. He led Temple and tied for 12th at the Firestone Invitational with a one-under 215 total. He followed that by placing third overall and second on the team to help lead the Owls to victory at the Bucknell Invitational with a three-under 134. Last, but not least, he tied for second overall and topped Temple with a seven-under 204 at the Phoenix Invitational. His 204 score at the Phoenix Invitational tied the school record for 54 holes and in the process he extended his program record for consecutive rounds in the 60s to five.
