- Class:
- 1966
A 1966 graduate of Temple, Bonnie Smith Taylor was an integral part of the Lady Owls' field hockey and swimming teams. A three-year player in hockey, Taylor was the team captain in 1965. That same year, she was named to the All-College first team and the All-Philadelphia second team. Her all-star team selections followed a true progression, as she went from third team to first team in succeeding years. She remained a member of the All-Philadelphia squad from 1964 to 1983, and served as captain 1980-83. Taylor also received national recognition for her hockey abilities, making various tours with the U.S. team from 1966 to 1974. She visited West Germany (1967), Africa (1969), New Zealand (1971) and Holland (1972). She captained the U.S. World Cup team in the Netherlands. She has remained involved with field hockey as an official, a coach with the Olympic Development staff and of course, a player. As a member of the swimming team, she competed in backstroke and medley relay events. She also swam for the Keystone AAU team from 1963 to 1965. Taylor received her B.S. degree in health and physcial education, and was the recipient of the Women's Athletic Association's Blazer and Field Hockey Awards. She served as treasurer and secretary of the WAA. A participant in Temple's modern dance program 1963-65, Taylor was chosen for the Joan Kerr "Electra" presentation. Since graduation, she earned certifications in aerobic dance, CPR and first aid instruction. In sum, Taylor believes she has made good use of her "Temple education and experience in athletics."
