Owls Go Five Sets In First Round Of Bearcat Classic

VESTAL N.Y. - Temple Volleyball (4-3) fell to Binghamton (4-3) in five sets Thursday night at the Events Center. Resilience was the theme of this match, as Temple battled back set after set from being down. Despite the loss, Hummel continues to have a stellar senior season leading the team tonight in kills with 16.
Set:1 (21-25)
Steel Sinai got the scoring stated for Temple, but Binghamton quickly went on a 0-4 run leading the game 1-4 early
Christiana Green ended the early slide for the Owls with a kill, and Kennedy Crayton contributed offensively and defensively to get the owls back into the game at 6-8
Binghamton went on a another run but Khenedi Guest and Green stoped the momentum and brought the game within two at 13-15
The game was back and forth with three and four point runs. Strong defense from both sides forced errors until a Lexi Yoza assist, and Olivia Hummel kill brought the Owls within one at 21-22
In the end, Binghamton was able to pull out the set win at 21-25
Set:2 (25-22)
Guest led off for the Owls in the second set with a strong block, tying the game at 3-3
Green showed why she was 2nd team American conference with kills and blocks that tied the game again at 8-8
Binghamton frustrated the Owls forcing errors and blocks, and lead the game 13-16 midway through the second set. Sinai was excellent offensively with back to back kills and tied the game at 16
Kills from Green and Hummel helped propel the owls to a 20-18 lead and after a back and forth battle they pulled out the set with a win at 25-23
Set:3 (25-27)
Siani recorded her 7th kill of the evening and tied the game at 2-2 early in the 3rd set
The game was tight until Binghamton went on a 0-3 run extending their lead at 7-9
The Owls fought back with kills from Green and Hummel, but Binghamton was able to frustrate the Temple leading 11-15 midway through the set
Kills from Guest and Jaya Moore gained some momentum for the Owls and their athleticism proved to be a handful for Binghamtons defense as the Owls trailed 18-19
The game saw back and forth action with each team reaching set point twice, but Binghamton was able to pull out the set win at 25-27
Set:4 (25-17)
Yoza started off the scoring for the Owls recording an ace and forcing an error, as Temple went up 2-0 early
Hummel and Guest continued a strong scoring night as Temple started to take control of set for with a 10-4 lead
Binghamton went on a small run to close the gap, but Sinai shut the door with a block as the Owls lead 14-9
Daniella Gonzalez Murati saw her first action of the year and recorded an ace giving Temple a 21-15 advantage
Temple would go on to win the set 25-18 with a Jaya Moore block
Set:5 (13-15)
Binghamton came out strong scoring 4 straight until Hummel ended the run with a spike bringing the set to 1-4
The Owls fought hard with the playmaking of Guest and Crayton, closing the distance to within 2 points at 6-8
The game was back and forth, and kills from Green and Hummel closed the gap to one at 11-12
Binghamton would eventually go on to win the set 13-15
