Women's Basketball Drops Season Opener to Penn, 79-50

Philadelphia - The Temple women's basketball team dropped its season opener to Pennsylvania, 79-50, tonight at The Palestra.
The Owls (0-1) jumped out to an early 17-7 lead thanks to nine quick points, including two three-pointers, by junior guard Natalia Isaac (Falls Church, Va./Stuart). Temple led throughout the first half and took a 31-29 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The second half belonged to the Quakers as they shot 53.6 percent from the floor and outscored the Owls, 50-19. The Penn scoring effort was led by Diana Caramanica. The junior forward scored 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead all players in both categories.
Sophomore center Lisa Jakubowicz (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan) had 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds for Temple. Freshman guard Stacey Smalls (Cheltenham, Pa./Cheltenham), playing in her first collegiate game, came off the bench to score eight points and had three steals.
The loss drops the Owls to 0-1 on the season. Up next for Temple is a trip to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to take on Marist on Nov. 8.
