Atlantic 10 Names Lori Brennan To Women's Soccer All-Conference First Team
11.5.99 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA, PA (November 5) -- Senior forward Emma Kurowski of the University of Massachusetts has been named the 1999 Atlantic 10 women's soccer Player of the Year in voting conducting among the Conference's head coaches. In that same vote, Missy Gregg of Dayton was tabbed the Rookie of the Year and St. Bonaventure's Geoff Bennett was named Coach of the Year. Kurowski enters this weekend's Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship as Massachusetts' leading scorer with 30 points. Her 13 goals are also tops among the Minutewomen and both totals rank third in the Atlantic 10. She also has three game-winning goals. With being named to the All-Conference first-team, the native of Sutton, MA, who is the leading scorer and goal scorer in UMass history, earns her fourth Atlantic 10 first-team honor. Dayton rode Gregg's leg to its second consecutive Atlantic 10 regular season title and the top seed in this weekend's Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship. The freshman from Kettering, OH enters this weekend's tournament leading the Atlantic 10 with Dayton freshman records of 21 goals and 50 points. She also enters the Championship having scored a goal in each of the Flyers' last 10 games, which is the third longest streak in NCAA history. Her four assists in Dayton's 8-1 win over St. Joseph's on Oct. 10 tied her for the highest single game total in the nation this year. The one-time Player and three-time Rookie of the Week also has a hat trick (vs. Evansville) to her credit, as well as seven game-winning goals - four of which came in Atlantic 10 play. Joining Kurowski and Gregg on the All-Conference first-team are Xavier's Annette Gruber and Erin Cole; Shannon Kittelson of Rhode Island; Temple's Lori Brennan; Dana Gavaghan of La Salle; Dayton's Jen Davin; Cindy Garceau and Alexi Rudd of Massachusetts; and St. Bonaventure's Karen Cunningham. The All-Conference second-team consists of Kara Green of Massachusetts; Virginia Tech's Joy Nsubuga; Ellen-Carine Stenrud, Mindy Spellman and Colleen Corcoran of St. Joseph's; Dayton's Sarah Walker and Wes Oxley; Catherine Zanni and Rebecca Sorensen of Rhode Island; La Salle's Blair Hontz; and Courtney Wright of George Washington. In his second year at St. Bonaventure, Bennett guided the Bonnies to a 9-7-3 overall record and a 5-4-2 mark in Atlantic 10 play. The Bonnies enter the weekend as the fourth seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship - the first time the Bonnies have ever qualified for the tournament. The 1995 Hartwick graduate spent two seasons as an assistant at Lafayette before assuming the reins at St. Bonaventure, where he has compiled a two-year mark of 17-17-4.
