Women's Basketball Falls to Rider 66-63

Philadelphia (December 21) - The Temple women's basketball team fell to Rider, 66-63, tonight at The Forum at The Apollo of Temple. The loss broke a three-game winning streak for the Owls.
Temple was led by junior Natalia Isaac (Falls Church, Va./Stuart) who scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Owls. The 5-7 guard scored 12 of her points in the second half. Sophomore Lisa Jakubowicz (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan) and senior Kim Martin (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) each chipped in with 12 points. Martin added a team-high eight rebounds.
Rider jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game. The Owls answered with a 10-2 scoring run to go up 10-9 with 14:15 remaining in the first half. The two teams battled back and forth before Temple took a 33-30 halftime lead.
The battle continued in the second half before Rider went on an 11-2 scoring run to take a six-point lead with 4:08 remaining. The Owls answered once again by going on a 7-2 run to tie the game at 62-62 with 2:07 remaining. However, Rider's Maritza Rodriguez would hit a driving lay up and later nail a free throw to give the Broncs a 65-63 lead with 13.6 seconds remaining. After Rider's Katie Kearon went 1-for-2 from the free throw line, the Owls got the ball, trailing by three, with 4.9 seconds remaining. However, Jakubowicz's three-point attempt at the buzzer just missed and Rider held on for the victory.
The Broncs were deadly from the three-point line as they hit 12-of-24 attempts. Rider's Iris Beistline converted on 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Kearon and Melissa Dilgard each made three three-pointers.
The loss drops the Owls to 4-5 on the season. Rider improves to 3-4. Up next for the Owls is a trip to Miami, Fla. to play in the Florida International Fun in the Sun Classic.
