Women's Basketball Tops Lehigh 59-51

The Temple women's basketball team earned its second victory of the season by topping Lehigh, 59-51, at the Stabler Arena.
Temple won with their young players as freshman Stacey Smalls and sophomore Lisa Jakubowicz lead the scoring attack. Smalls, a 5-5 point guard had a team-high 13 points on the night. Lisa Jakubowicz, the Owls' starting center, scored 12 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds.
Both teams traded baskets for much of the first half before Lehigh's Kelly Collins converted two free throws to give the Mountain Hawks a 2-point lead with 37 seconds remaining in the first half. On the ensuing possession, Temple guard Nicole Chaszar nailed a three-pointer to put the Owls on top by one with 11 seconds remaining in the first stanza. With four seconds left in the half, Smalls made a steal, dribbled the length of the court and converted the lay up to give the Owls a 30-27 halftime lead.
The Owls would never relinquish the lead as the second half belonged to Temple. The Owls built their lead to as much as 12 points before coasting to the 59-51 victory. Guard Natalia Isaac scored all eight of her points in the second half to help the Owls win the game.
The win improves the Owls to 2-4 on the season. Lehigh drops to 4-4. Temple returns home to face Fairleigh Dickinson on Dec. 11 at The Apollo with tip off slated for 2:00 p.m.
