Four Temple Lacrosse Players Earn Mid-Atlantic Region All-America Honors

PHILADELPHIA, PA (May 11, 1999) -- Temple senior Nicole Ross earned first team Mid-Atlantic Region All-America honors to lead a group of four Temple lacrosse players. Senior Jessica Larkin and juniors Kelly Ruch and Iris Alvarado each were selected as second team MidAtlantic All-Americans.

Ross (Odenton, Md., Arundel) led the Owls and the Atlantic 10 Conference with 67 goals. She tied the Temple single game record of 10 goals against Duquesne. Ross was also named the Atlantic 10's Offensive Player of the Year and the Atlantic 10 Tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

Ruch (Phoenixville, Pa.,/Phoenixville) was second on the team in scoring with 42 goals. She started every contest this season and had six games with three or more goals, including nine scores against La Salle. Ruch was also named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference and All-Tournament teams.

Larkin (Phoenixville, Pa.,/Phoenixville) started every game for the Owls this season and led a young defense with 16 caused turnovers and 34 ground balls. She usually drew the assignment of stopping the opponent's top player. She was an Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection.

Alvarado (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) started every game in goal for the Owls for the second straight season. She finished 1999 with a .545 save percentage and a 9.63 goals against average as the Owls faced 10 top 25 teams. Alvarado was named to the Atlantic 10's all Conference and All-Tournament teams.

Head Coach Kim Ciarrocca's Owls finished the season with an 8-11 record. They were the Atlantic 10's regular season champions with a 5-0 record and advanced to the championship game, falling to Virginia Tech, 8-7.
