Temple Women's Soccer Wins Holiday Inn Express Invitational

Stony Brook, N.Y. (Sept. 20) - The Temple women's soccer team won the Holiday Inn Express Invitational held Sept. 18-19 at the University of Stony Brook in Stony Brook, N.Y.
On Saturday, the Owls pounded Marist, 6-2 to advance to the championship game. Temple was led by Lori Brennan who had three goals and one assist in the victory. Sophomore Brandi Wright chipped in with two goals. Junior Mary Mulvenna scored one goal and tallied one assist.
In the championship game, freshman Brenda Gore scored twice, including the game-winner at 8:59 of the first overtime to lift Temple to a 2-1 win over American. Gore notched her first goal of the game, at the 76:26 mark, knocking home a rebound shot from teammate Katie Mills to even the score at one. Midway through the first overtime, Brennan fed a pass through to Gore who blasted a shot over the outstretched hands of the American goalie for the game-winning goal.
Brennan earned tournament Most Valuable Player honors, recording three goals and two assists over the weekend. Along with Brennan, Wright, Lauren Gotto and Courtney Woytowicz were selected to the all-tournament team.
