Women Fall To Duquesne in Hoops Action, 61-51

Philadelphia - The Temple women's basketball team was downed by Duquesne, 61-51,
Sunday at The Apollo. Although it was Sunday, it felt like Friday as in Beth Friday,
Duquesne's freshman forward. The 6-1 Friday had 10 points, 19 rebounds, five steals
and two blocked shots to pace the Dukes.
Temple was led by senior Nicole Chaszar who scored 20 points, including five
three-pointers. Sophomore Lisa Jakubowicz added 12 points and nine rebounds for
the Owls.
Temple trailed the contest, 24-17, at halftime. Early in the second half, the Owls
would cut the lead to two points thanks to a Chaszar three-pointer. However, the
Dukes went on a 19-5 scoring run to take a 43-27 advantage with 11:26 remaining.
The Duquesne lead would grow to 19-points with 6:30 left before the Owls would mount
a comeback. Temple managed to whittle the lead down to 58-51 with 30:8 seconds remaining
but could get no closer.
Duquesne's Gina Naccarato led the Dukes' scoring effort with a career-high 20 points.
With the loss, the Owls drop to 5-13. Duquesne improves to 5-11. Up next for the Owls
is a trip to Amherst, Mass. To face UMass on Jan. 27.
