Kingston, R.I. - The Temple women's basketball team traveled to Rhode Island and beat the Rams, 68-49, today. It was the Owls' first conference victory of the season.
The Owls led the contest from start to finish. They broke open a two-point halftime lead to coast to the 29-point win. The Owls were led by Melissa Eagles and Kim Martin. The native New Englanders enjoyed their homecoming by scoring 12 points apiece to lead the Owls.
It was also a good day for Temple's young players. Freshman Stacey Smalls had eight points, four assists and a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman Regan Apo notched nine points and had a career-high five steals. Freshman Lakia Preston had four points and two rebounds in seven minutes.
The Owls played stifling defense as they snatched 14 steals and forced 32 Rhode Island turnovers.
With the win, the Owls improve to 6-14 overall and 1-8 in the conference. Rhode Island drops to 1-18 overall and 1-8 in the conference. Up next for the Owls is a home game against Massachusetts on Feb 6.
