Women's Basketball Falls to Miami 64-44

Coral Gables, Fla. - The Temple women's basketball team lost to Miami, 64-44, on Sunday at the Knight Sports Complex on the Coral Gables campus. The Owls were led by Melissa Eagles who scored eight points. It marked the second game in a row that Eagles led the Owls' scoring effort.
The Hurricanes held the Owls to 29.8 percent shooting from the floor, allowing only 14 baskets while causing 25 turnovers. Miami scored the first basket of the game and remained in control, leading by as much as 26 with 6:31 left to play in the first half. The 'Canes took a 20-point lead into halftime.
The Owls played solid defense in the second half and held Miami to 28.6 percent shooting from the floor. However, the Owls were unable to make up any ground and lost the game, 64-44.
Junior Ieesha Turnage and Sophomore Lisa Jakubowicz each scored six points and grabbed five rebounds. Sophomore Melissa Dunne also added six points. Temple's 5'5" point guard Stacey Smalls led the Owls in rebounding with seven caroms.
Miami was led by sophomore Sheila James who scored a career-high 23 points, including four three-pointers, and Dona Nando who finished with a career-best 16 points.
The loss drops the Owls to 5-7 on the season. Miami improves to 6-4. Up next, the Owls will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to face Xavier on Jan. 7.
