Women's Basketball Falls To Xavier, 65-60

CINCINNATI - The Temple University women's basketball team fell to
conference foe Xavier University, 65-60. The teams exchanged
baskets for a large part of the game. Both teams built small leads, but
both teams went on spurts and kept themselves in the game.
The Owls erased a nine-point deficit over a four-minute span and trailed by
three with 39 seconds remaining following a Nicole Chaszar free throw.
On the next possession, Xavier's Jennifer Phillips missed a short jumper. XU senior
Kim Hotz grabbed the rebound and was fouled as she laid the ball in, extending Xavier's
lead to five with nine seconds to play, sealing the win for Xavier.
Temple was up by as much as five points in the first half. After 10
minutes, Temple led 16-11, but a pair of treys kept Xavier within striking
distance. Then another pair of Xavier threes sparked Xavier's run at the end
of the first half. Xavier led 37-27 at the half, as they went on a 14-2 run
to close out the half.
Temple answered XU in the second half with a 17-8 run to start and trailed
47-44 with 12:30 left to play in the game. The Owls never quit and trailed
Xavier 63-56 with 3:24 remaining.
