Women's Soccer Falls to Rhode Island 6-1

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island picked up an impressive 6-1 victory over Temple
in an Atlantic 10 matchup on Friday evening at the URI Soccer Complex.
Rhode Island junior Shannon Kittelson opened the scoring for the contest at
the 8:10 mark when she headed in a corner from fellow junior Catherine Zanni
to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. Kittelson notched her second goal of the game as
she tallied an unassisted goal at the 13:11 mark for a 2-0 advantage. Zanni
made the score 3-0 in favor of the Rams at the 20:51 mark as she put in a pass
from sophomore Gina Rosen. With time running down in the first half, freshman
Sarah Johnston closed out the scoring, putting in a pass from Kittelson at the
43:52 mark to make the score 4-0 at halftime.
Sophomore Heather Kasparek increased the lead for URI early in the second half
after an assist from Rosen at the 53:49 mark made the score 5-0. Temple got
their first goal of the game on an unassisted tally from senior Julie Marx at
the 56:28 mark. Freshman Erica Young rounded out the scoring for the evening
for Rhode Island when she tallied an unassisted goal at the 79:39 mark for the
6-1 final.
Sophomore Jamie Epperlein and junior Kate Hirsch combined to make three saves
in goal in the Rhode Island victory while sophomore Courtney Woytowicz and
graduate student Kristin Bakia made 8 stops for Temple in the setback
The Rams, who improved to 10-1-1 for the season with a 2-1-0 record in the
Atlantic 10 will return to action on Sunday, October 8 when they host St.
Joseph's in an Atlantic 10 matchup at the URI Soccer complex at 1:00 p.m.
