Men's and Women's Tennis Place Second at the Atlantic 10 Championships

BLACKSBURG, VA - Temple men's and women's tennis teams placed second in the Atlantic Ten Conference Championships held
April 15-16 in Blacksburg, Virginia. Both teams were defeated in the championship game by Virginia Tech who went on to win
its fifth consecutive conference title.
In men's action, the Owls defeated George Washington, 4-0, and Duquesne, 4-1, before losing to the Hokies, 4-0. Senior Pero
Pivcevic led the fight with two straight set singles victories against Kevin Wright of George Washington, 6-3, 6-3 and Garth Levin of
Duquesne, 6-3, 6-0. Krishane Pillay and Marty Underwood also picked up wins in both matches.
In women's action, for the second straight year, the Owls lost to Virginia Tech, 5-0, in the championship round. The team picked up
two victories against Rhode Island, 5-0, and George Washington, 5-0 before advancing to the finals. Senior Kathleen Pete won two
singles victories beating Cyndi Taylor of Rhode Island 6-1, 6-0, and Sarine Weingarten of George Washington, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Tamara Truta advanced with her team leading 20th win of the season beating Tracy Wei of George Washington 6-2, 6-2.
Pivcevic was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference team for the fourth straight year. Joining him was Pillay for the second
consecutive year. New Jersey native Pete was named to the team for the second time in her college career. Kramaric and Truta
were also honored.
