Women's Tennis to Face UAB in Round One of 2026 American Women’s Tennis Tournament

IRVING, Texas – The Wichita State Shockers have secured the No. 1 seed for the 2026 American Conference Women's Tennis Championship, set to begin Thursday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on the campus of Rice University.
Wichita State (19-3) earns the top seed and a bye into the quarterfinals after a dominant regular season. The Shockers will face the winner of No. 8 UAB (10-11) and No. 9 Temple (9-9) on Friday, April 17 at 10 a.m. UAB and Temple will open the tournament on Thursday, April 16 at 10 a.m. CT.
Charlotte (21-3) claims the No. 2 seed and will await the winner of No. 7 Tulane (10-11) and No. 10 UTSA (9-10), who meet Thursday at 1 p.m. CT.
Host Rice (14-6) earns the No. 3 seed and the final first-round bye. The Owls will face the winner of No. 6 North Texas (16-7) and No. 11 Memphis (2-16) in the final quarterfinal match. North Texas and Memphis, the defending champions, will close out the first round Thursday at 4 p.m. CT.
In other first-round action, three-time champion Tulsa (13-11) earned the No. 4 seed and will take on No. 13 East Carolina (4-10) at 10 a.m. CT, while No. 5 Florida Atlantic (8-8) faces No. 12 South Florida (5-15) at 1 p.m. CT.
The championship runs April 16-19, with the winner earning the American Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships.
