Softball Splits With Hawks

PHILADELPHIA (April 30) - The Temple softball team split its doubleheader with St. Joseph's on Saturday and remained locked in a tie for fourth place in the Atlantic 10 standings.

In the first game, Bari Pflueger went the distance as the Owls took a 3-2 victory. Pflueger struckout out three and had just one eanred run in her seven innings of work.

The Owls took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second after Erin Bryne homered. The Hawks came back with two runs in the top of the sixth. Temple struck quickly in the bottom of the

sixth. After Andrea Horton walked, Pfleuger reached on a fielders choice moving Horton to second. Both runners advanced on a Chrissy Pearson sacrifice. Kendra Navaro scored Horton

for the tieing run on a single and moved to second on the throw with Pfleuger at third. Brode was inserted for Pfleuger at third and took advantage of a passed ball for what would be the

winning run. Pfleuger wrapped things up in the top of the seventh for the Owl victory.

The second game proved to be a different affair as the Owls offense ground to a halt. The Hawks banged out 10 hits against Nancy Lima and scored a run in the first, fifth and seventh

innings for a 3-0 win. Temple mustered just four hits, two by Cabrina Bartocci.

The Owls play four key games May 6 and 7, traveling to Fordham on Saturday and La Salle on Sunday. Both doubleheaders begin at 12 noon.
