Owls are No. 1 Seed for Second Annual Bell Atlantic Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championship

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Owls are the No. 1 seed in the second
annual Bell
Atlantic
Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championship, which takes
place Saturday and
Sunday, May 6-7, at the University of Massachusetts' Totman
Field. Sunday's Championship game will be televised live on
CN8 in Philadelphia. (See below for more television
channels)
The 2000 regular season ended in a three-way tie for first place
as
Massachusetts, Temple, and Virginia Tech each finished with
5-1 records in
Atlantic 10 play. After exhausting every tie-breaker, a draw was
conducted
by Atlantic 10 commissioner Linda Bruno. The draw resulted in
Temple being
awarded the top seed in this year's Championship.
Temple, which finished the regular season with an 8-8 overall
record, will
meet fourth-seeded Duquesne in the first semifinal game on
Saturday, May 6.
The Dukes, who enter the Championship with a 9-4 overall
record, were 3-3 in
league competition.
Saturday's nightcap features second-seeded Massachusetts
and third-seeded
Virginia Tech. Again, both ended the season 5-1 in Atlantic 10
competition
but the Minutewomen were accorded the higher seed based on
the draw.
Massachusetts is 8-7 overall while the Hokies, last year's
Atlantic 10
champions, are 9-7.
Temple will square off with Duquesne at noon on Saturday with
the
Massachusetts-Virginia Tech game beginning at 2:30pm. The
title match will
be played Sunday at 1:00pm. The final will be televised live on
the Atlantic
10 Television Network. The game can be seen on Fox Sports
New England, Fox
Sports Ohio, Fox Sports Pittsburgh, Home Team Sports
(metropolitan
Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia), Empire Sports Network
(Western New York
State), and CN8 (Philadelphia, New Jersey). This will be the first
time the
women's lacrosse championship will be aired.
