Softball Splits with Fordham

Bronx, NY - The Temple Softball Team split an Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader against Fordham at Fordham's Bahoshy Field on Saturday, May 6. The Owls won 3-0 in game one, and lost 2-0 in the bottom of the eighth in game two.
In game one, all three of Temple's runs came in the fourth inning on three hits and one Fordham error. Freshman righthander Courtney Collins (Madison, CT) took the loss on the mound for Fordham, striking out three and allowing seven hits in seven innings, brining her season record to 5-16. Bari Pflueger earned the win for Temple. At the plate, sophomore Jamie Chastain (Lake Havasu City, AZ), juniors Sarah Jones (Tempe, AZ) and Katie Kesler (Phoenix, AZ) and senior Megan Georgvich (Chandler, AZ) all batted 1-for-3 for the Rams. Christi Ragan hit 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Owls.
In the day's second game, both teams went through seven scoreless innings, sending the game into the eighth inning where Jones knocked a double to center which drove in Chastain and freshman Marie Mitchell (Kent, WA) for the 2-0 Ram win. Junior righthander Renee Little (Gilbert, AZ) hurled the complete-game shutout, her second of the year, allowing just one Owl hit and improving to 6-12 on the year. At the plate, freshman Amanda Smith (Bullhead City, AZ) batted 3-for-3, while Jones was 1-for-4 with two RBI and Mitchell was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Georgvich batted 1-for-3, while junior second base Beth Whitmarsh (North Kingstown, RI) hit 1-for-2. Bari Pflueger (8-9) took the loss for Temple in game two, pitching 2 1/3 innings of relief. Andrea Horton posted the Owls' lone hit.
With the split, Fordham improves to 16-35-1 overall and 4-10 in the Atlantic 10, while Temple's record goes to 17-29 overall and 6-6 in conference action. Fordham plays its final regular-season doubleheader on Sunday, May 7 when the Rams host St. Joseph's (PA) in Atlantic 10 action at 12:00 noon. The doubleheader will be Senior Day, when the Rams honor graduating seniors Megan Georgvich, Maria Valvano (Eastchester, NY), and Julie Martin (Ridgecrest, CA).
