Owls Victory Leaves Wagner Seeing Double

PHILADELPHIA - After two overtime periods and 30 shots on goal, the
Temple Owls Women's Soccer team defeated the Wagner Seahawks 2-1 on the
road in their opening game of the 2000 campaign. This game also
featured a true sister act, as twin sisters Julie and Emily Marx scored
both goals in Staten Island, N.Y.
The Owls trailed 1-0 as they headed into the final two minutes of
play. Senior forward Julie Marx found the back of the net with just
1:09 left in the game to even the score at 1-1. Senior captain Mary
Mulvenna recorded the assist. Senior defender Emily Marx followed her
sister's lead with 9:01 left in the second overtime period. Junior
Brook Cholaj assisted her.
Owls goalie Kristen Bakia faced only five shots and made four
saves, while Wagner faced 30 shots. The Owls are now 1-0 on the
season. The next game will be their home opener on Sunday, September 3,
2000, against Lehigh University.
