Temple Women Win Conference Opener
9.26.00 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple Owls continued their winning streak Tuesday
afternoon (9-26-00) with a 3-2 defeat of Atlantic-10 rival St. Joseph's. This
game marked the conference opener for both teams.
The Hawks got on the board first with a Katie Watson (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale
Catholic) goal just six-and-a-half minutes into the contest to give her team
the 1-0 lead. The Hawks kept that lead for most of the first half, but
Temple's leading scorer Brandi Wright (Olathe, Kan./Olathe North) found the
net at 42:19. Junior Jeanette Hibbs (Philadelphia/St. Hubert's) assisted her.
The teams entered halftime knotted at one goal apiece.
Less than five minutes into the second period, Watson struck again,
unassisted, to put the Hawks up by one, 2-1. It would take the Owls twenty
minutes to find the net again. Freshman defender Rachel Silver (Allentown,
Pa./Parkland) came off the bench and recorded her first career goal to knot
the score at two goals apiece. Hibbs and Wright teamed up again just minutes
later to put Temple ahead for good, 3-2. Hibbs scored the game-winning goal
off a Wright pass.
Wright's goal, the 22nd of her career, places her fourth on Temple's all-time
goal scoring list. She has 48 career points, placing her fourth on the
all-time scoring record.
The Owls improve to 8-2-0 overall, 1-0-0 conference. Temple hosts George
Washington on Friday, September 29, at Temple Stadium at 4:00 p.m.
