TEMPLE AT BOSTON COLLEGE GAME NOTES

10.1.01 | Football

Temple and Boston College meet Saturday in Chestnut Hill, Mass. at 44,500-seat Alumni Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start and will mark the Owls' first Big East contest of the season. Boston College has played one conference game and defeated West Virginia, 34-10, at Morgantown on Sept. 1. Since joining the conference as a charter member in 1991, Temple is 1-9 in Big East openers. The Owls' only victory in a league opener was a 28-21 win over the Eagles at Veterans Stadium in 1997.

The game, originally scheduled to air on WPHT (1210 AM), will be broadcast on WPEN (950 AM) in the Philadelphia area. This change became necessary due to a conflict arising from the adjustment of the Philadelphia Phillies' schedule. The game will be televised via ESPN Regional Television and will be broadcast on Comcast Sportsnet in the Philadelphia region. In Boston, the game will be televised locally on the New England Sports Network.

Temple (1-2, 0-0) is coming off a 42-23 loss at Bowling Green on Sept. 22. Although Temple held the advantage in both first downs and time of possession, Bowling Green produced two defensive scores, connected on a pair of long touchdown passes and capped off the night with a touchdown return of an on-sides kick to throttle the Owls before 11,029 fans at Perry Stadium. Temple produced 356 yards of total offense and 18 first downs behind freshman quarterback Mike McGann in his first career start. McGann completed passes to eight different receivers and became the first true freshman to start at quarterback since Devin Scott did it five times in 1998. Bowling Green (3-0), which managed 248 total yards and 14 first downs, avenged a 31-14 loss to the Owls at Franklin Field last season.

Boston College, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Tom O'Brien, owns a 3-1 record after a 31-10 win over Army at Alumni Stadium last Saturday. The Eagles jumped out to a 17-0 first quarter lead as William Green posted his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the year with 115 yards and one touchdown. Junior quarterback Brian St. Pierre completed 18-of-25 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns.
