TEMPLE'S DAN KLECKO NAMED BIG EAST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple defensive tackle Dan Klecko (Colts Neck, N.J./Marlboro High School) was named the Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced today. The 6-1, 264-pound junior had seven tackles (four solo), four tackles-for-loss, 2.5 quarterback sacks, four quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery in the Owls' 30-5 victory over Rutgers at Veterans Stadium Saturday (Oct. 15).

In five games, Klecko has 29 tackles (17 solo), 10 tackles-for-loss, 4.5 quarterback sacks, one pass break-up, 13 quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery.

It is the second career Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Week award for Klecko. He last captured the honor on Oct. 11, 1999 as a true freshman with an eight tackle, four tackle-for loss, two quarterback sack, two quarterback hurry performance in a 24-14 victory over Boston College.

Klecko is the second Owl to earn the weekly award this season. Senior defensive end Raheem Brock was named the Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 3 after his performance (10 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, two quarterbacks sacks, seven pass break-ups) in the Owls' 45-26 season-opening win over Navy (Aug. 30).

Temple (2-3, 1-1 Big East) returns to the gridiron this Saturday at Syracuse (5-2, 2-0 Big East) for a 1:30 p.m. contest in the Carrier Dome. The game will be broadcast in the Philadelphia region on WPHT (1210 AM). Pre-game coverage begins at 1:15 p.m.
