TEMPLE FOOTBALL, GREATER PHILADELPHIA FOOD BANK IN HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE PARTNERSHIP
11.1.01 | Football
Athletics Director Dave O'Brien urged fans to get into the holiday spirit by bringing at least one can of food for the food bank to the game. Receptacles for the food will be positioned al all entry gates at the stadium.
"In these troubled times, we need to do all that we can to draw together as a nation," O'Brien said. "Making sure that the less fortunate share in America's bounty is a wonderful way to begin the holiday season."
GPFB Executive Director Marquette Stevenson thanked Temple for its contribution and for its commitment to community service. "By doing things like helping us collect food for the holidays, Temple is showing all of us that it really cares," Stevenson said. "They are setting a great example for others to follow."
The GPFB partnership is just one way Temple Athletics has demonstrated its commitment to community service this fall. Earlier, a $2,500 check was presented to Philadelphia Firefighters Local 22 to assist in its "Fill the Helmet" campaign for the families of police and fire fighters who gave their lives in the September 11 terror attack on the World Trade Center. That contribution was derived from walkup ticket sales at the October 13 Rutgers game.
"Temple is an urban university," Athletics Director O'Brien said. "We intend to be partners in these kinds of efforts whenever possible."
