J.D. NICHOLS NAMED TO 2001 VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL DISTRICT II FOOTBALL TEAM

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple junior linebacker J.D. Nichols (Phoenix, Ariz./Phoenix College) has been named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District II Football Team. Nichols is a computer science major with a 3.38 overall grade point average.

Nichols has played in all 10 of Temple's games this season and has made four starts. He has posted 28 tackles (13 solo), three tackles-for-loss, two pass break-ups and three quarterback hurries. In Saturday's 17-14 victory at West Virginia, Nichols started at strong-side linebacker and made four tackles (two solo), including one tackle-for-loss.

Temple (3-7, 2-5 Big East) concludes its 103rd season of football this Saturday (November 24) with a 12 noon game versus Connecticut (2-8) at Franklin Field. The contest was originally scheduled for September 15, but was postponed due to the terrorist attacks of September 11.
