KENTUCKY BEATS TEMPLE IN WOMEN'S HOOPS

11.18.01 | Women's Basketball

Lexington, Ky. -- Lisa Jakubowicz (15) and Christena Hamilton (12) were the double figure scorers as The Temple women's basketball team (0-2, 0-0) suffered its second loss of the season to Kentucky 64-55 on Saturday, November 17. The Owls, who were down by as many as 20 points (52-32) in the second half fought back and cut the lead to seven (60-53) with 1:49 remaining as they finished the game on a 21-12 run.

"I thought it was a great game," said Temple head coach Dawn Staley. "I think both teams put together some runs, but Kentucky had better runs than us. I was proud off our effort. It's tough to come into a place like this and come away with a win," she continued.

Jakubowicz, a senior, also led the Owls in rebounding with eight boards on the night, while shooting fifty percent (5-10) from the field. Hamilton, a sophomore, shot 5-11 from the floor in scoring her new career high. Temple's top two scorers on the season, Athena Christoforakis and Stacey Smalls, were held to 10 points combined on 4-18 shooting.

Selia Helm led the Wildcats with a game-high 22 points on 8-14 shooting. Helm was also a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. Rita Adams (12) and Shambrica Jones (10) also scored in double figures for Kentucky.

Next up for the Owls, a home date with Big Five city series rival Pennsylvania on Wednesday, November 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the Liacouras Center.
