QUOTES FROM BOBBY WALLACE'S MONDAY AFTERNOON BIG EAST CONFERENCE CALL
11.19.01 | Football
"We are very excited to come out of Morgantown with a win. It was a very hard fought game."
"In the second half the light finally went on for our offense ... Tanardo rushed for 123 yards in the half. Our defense held West Virginia to 139 yards in the second half and once we took the lead our defense didn't allow a first down in three possessions."
"I am very proud of our players ... they have stayed together, never pointed fingers or done anything but give us a great effort every week. It finally paid off."
"Chonn Lacey had a great game with 11 tackles, two interceptions and a caused fumble. He has gotten better every week since we moved him from owlback to corner. Jairo Almonte, who moved from corner to owlback, has also had great games. That move has really paid off."
ON THE TEAM TRAVELING BY BUS TO WEST VIRGINIA:
"It was enjoyable. We probably won't make a habit of doing it. I think the kids enjoyed it, just having a little time together and getting away. It may sound a little foolish, but it really isn't. Also, we have a lot of kids with apprehension of flying and I respect that."
ON THE CONNECTICUT HUSKIES:
"Connecticut is obviously a make-up game that we have already prepared for ... It is a very important game for us. They are coming into the Big East in the near future ... We look at it as very, very important game and hopefully we will play well."
"We look at it as a Big East game. They have Big East on their field and on their films ... We look it as a conference game, even though it won't show in the standings."
ON TEMPLE'S SEVEN LOSSES:
"The seven teams we have lost to have a combined record of 51-17. We've played a lot of good football teams and we haven't been able to beat the teams with winning records. At the same time, we have played some great teams. Look at what Miami just did to Syracuse ... We had a confidence problem and I think finally in the third quarter (at West Virginia) the players got some confidence. They came out of the game in a better frame of mind ... With that said, we should be a lot better this week."
