TEMPLE'S CHONN LACEY HONORED AT ANNUAL BERT BELL MEMORIAL AWARD DINNER
12.12.01 | Football
A four-year starter and a member of Bobby Wallace's first recruiting class at Temple, Lacey made an impact in all phases of the game in 2001. The Pottstown, Pa. native was believed to be the only "three-way" player in Division I-A football, playing on offense, defense and special teams in six of the Owls' first seven contests. Lacey contributed at defensive back, wide receiver and on punt and kickoff coverage units to average 75.4 snaps per game during that stretch. At Boston College he started both ways, at wide receiver and cornerback.
On the season, Lacey started all 11 games and led the squad in tackles with 84 (68 solo) and in interceptions with four. He also posted three tackles-for-loss, six pass break-ups, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Offensively, Lacey caught 13 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns. Twice cited in his career as the Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Lacey ranks fourth in all-time solo tackles at Temple with 215 (299 total) and seventh in interceptions with 10. He played in 43 career games, making 40 consecutive starts to end his tenure in Owl Country.
The cousin of Jacksonville Jaguars' all-time interception leader Aaron Beasley, Lacey has also excelled in the classroom. A sports & recreation management major, he was twice named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (3.0 semester G.P.A.).
