PHILADELPHIA, PA. (Feb. 20) -- The Temple University football team has signed

defensive end Michael Dollman of Penn Hills (Pa.) High School. The

signing of Dollman brings the total number of recruits in the 2001 class

to 31. Dollman is the fifth defensive lineman the Owls have signed, a

defensive line group that averages 6-4 and 249 pounds.

Dollman (6-3, 218), a highly decorated defensive end from Penn Hills,

Pa., was voted second team all-state as a senior and first team as a

junior by the Associated Press. He was a Toyota Supreme Team Second-Team

all-state selection in 2000. Dollman was also selected for the Great 28,

Fab 22 and Terrific 25 teams as a senior. He Earned all-conference and

All-WPIAL honors and was ranked as one of the 50 best high school

recruits in Pennsylvania by FoxSports.com. As a senior he had 51

tackles, 16.5 sacks, eight quarterback knockdowns, recovered three

fumbles and forced two fumbles. Dollman had 66 tackles, 12 sacks, nine

quarterback knockdowns, recovered a fumble and forced two fumbles as a

junior.

Wallace, now entering his fourth season with the Owls, welcomes a

recruiting class consisting of 17 high school, 12 junior college and two

prep players. Nineteen players will be freshmen in 2001 while 10 will be

juniors and two will be sophomores. Temple targeted the northeast region

landing numerous signees from Pennsylvania (9), New York (6) and New

Jersey (5). California, Maryland and the District of Columbia each

delivered two players to Temple's campus while Virginia, Idaho,

Connecticut, Montana and Florida each contributed one.

The Owls finished the 2000 season with a 4-7 overall record. Temple

loses only two players from its 2000 team, the least of any team in the

Country, and will return 20 starters in 2001. The defense that was

ranked 33rd in the nation and had four players in the top 25 in various

individual statistical categories last year, loses just one player.
