3.26.01 | Softball

PHILADELPHIA (Mar. 26) - The Temple softball team (11-17, 2-1) faced the Fordham Rams (7-20, 1-2) in a three game series over the weekend and came away with two wins. The series opened with Fordham taking the first game of a doubleheader 3-0. In the second game of the twin bill, Temple notched an 8-1 win and in the finale, the Owls won 2-1.

Despite being held scoreless in the opening game, Temple did have a fine performance at the plate from junior Katie Spencer who went 2-3 in the loss. In the 8-1 win, Temple trailed 1-0 and then had a huge fifth inning where it scored six runs to break open the game. The Owls added two more runs in the sixth to seal the victory. Freshman Lynsey Grace (single and sacrifice fly), sophomore Barry Lynn Pfleuger (two hits), freshman Alexis Gary (a single and a double) and junior Martha Serrato (single, double, sacrifice fly) provided most of the offense for the Owls.

Things got a little tighter for Temple the following day. Trailing 1-0, the Owls scored two runs in the third inning on a triple by Grace. Fordham did not have an answer and Temple held on for the 2-1 victory. Sophomore Liz Naughton pitched a complete game for the Owls, striking out six and allowing only three hits.

Temple returns to action on Wednesday, March 28, when it visits Pennsylvania for a doubleheader. The first game begins at 3:00 p.m.
