4.21.01 | Women's Tennis

HAMILTON, N.J. - Coach Tracy Tooke's Temple women's tennis team scored a first-round sweep (4-0) of fifth-seeded seed Duquesne to advance to the semifinal round of the Verizon Atlantic 10 Conference Championships at Hamilton Park. The fourth-seeded Owls will meet No. 1-seed George Washington, a 4-0 winner over eighth-seeded Dayton on Saturday.

Also advancing to the semifinal round were the respective numbers two and three seeds, Massachusetts and Xavier, which meet Saturday in the other semifinal-round match. The championship final is slated for an 11 a.m. start on Sunday, as is the third-place match.

In its win over Duquesne, an Owls team that has played short handed due to injuries throughout the season was finally at full strength. The doubles teams of Tamara Truta-Lara Ercegovic and Tanya Zecic-Nina Kumar posted respective 8-6, 8-2 wins to give the Owls the team doubles point. In singles action, Truta (No. 2), Ercegovic (No. 3) and Zecic (No. 5) dispatched their opponents to close out the Dukes with no need for Danira Penic (No. 1), Katarina Kramaric (No. 4) and Kumar (No. 6) to finish.
